COVID-19 has changed every aspect of our lives. It has even changed how we get our homes and businesses painted. In the early months of the pandemic, many of us had to put our renovations on hold. Now, however, the world is slowly starting to reopen, and we can return to those painting projects once again. While you may be eager to get your paint job started, there are extra precautions we now need to take before tackling a new project.
So, if you’re planning on hiring painting contractors for your next project during COVID-19, here are some ways you can keep yourself safe:
Contact-free quotes
In the days before COVID-19, some painting contractors would visit your home or business before giving you a quote on your project. However, the more people you allow into your home, the more at risk you are for contracting COVID-19. Relying on contact-free quotes through a painting contractor’s website is an easy and simple way to get the information you need without the risk of even more strangers wandering through your home.
Paint color visualizers
If you don’t feel comfortable stopping by Home Depot or Lowe’s for paint samples, then you can rely on paint color visualizers instead. By uploading a photo of the rooms that you intend to paint, a paint color visualizer can virtually simulate what that color would look like on your walls. Sherwin-Williams’ ColorSnap is an excellent option, as is Color Smart by Behr.
Prepare your home
Once you’ve hired your painting contractors, the next step is preparing your home or business for their arrival. If you will be on the premises while they’re painting, restrict where in the house your contractors are allowed to go. For instance, have them go through only one door and lay out a specific pathway that they must follow to the designated room(s). Even if they will be painting multiple rooms, you can section off areas of the home so that you don’t cross paths too much.
Social distancing
When you have a painting crew on the premises, it’s important that everyone follows proper social distancing rules. This means staying 6 feet apart from each other whenever possible. If you are unable to social distance, then make sure that everyone is wearing a mask (see below).
Wear a mask
Masks are one of the most effective ways to limit the spread of the coronavirus, especially if you’re in a situation where you can’t social distance. As such, make sure that every painter that walks into your home is wearing a mask and that you’re wearing one too. You don’t need a N-95 mask or a face shield to stay safe. Something as simple as a scarf or a bandana over your face is enough to limit the spread.
Practice good hygiene
Good hygiene can kill germs, thus reducing the likelihood of someone contracting COVID-19. You should be washing your hands before, during, and after your painting project, as should your painting contractors. If you’re planning on a big painting project, stock up on some soap and hand sanitizer just to be safe.
Clean and disinfect your home or business
Just as you should keep your hands clean, you should also keep your property clean. The more frequently you clean and disinfect your home or business, the less likely it is for germs to spread. This is especially true if you’re inviting strangers onto your property. Once your painting crew is done for the day, give the area a good scrubbing with soap, water, and/or disinfectant.
