Many things bring a community together, but not many think of painting someone’s house as one of them. Don’t tell that to people in Pendleton, Oregon though, who recently came together to paint a neighbor’s house. It all started when a Josh Cyganik, a Good Samaritan, overheard two kids making fun of a neighbor’s house. Moved, he felt bad for the elderly couple whose house the two kids were referring to, Leonard and Dorothy Bullock. Cyganik did what any modern person would do: he posted the exchange on Facebook and asked helpers to meet him to repaint the house. Of course, it went viral.
The outpouring was, well, a miracle, because as many as 95 people came to paint the house, including some from outside Oregon. The couple was extremely grateful. The house, which was once so run-down looking, has gotten a new lease on life, and so have Leonard and Dorothy Bullock. Now that’s the power of paint; it gives you the ability to throw a new coat around your life, your days, your nights; it gives you the ability to breathe new life into the world; a metamorphosis almost, something certain to make you shine like never before. Not only is Leonard and Dorothy’s house shining like a newly born star, so is their life together – and that is a beautiful thing.

It is certainly a lot of work, but well worth it in the end. Just look at Leonard and Dorothy; the paint job changed their lives for the better.
