Exterior Color Trends for Your Home

870133_SThere are trends everywhere we look – fashion, food, TV shows, etc. They’re an unavoidable fact of life, especially with social media sites like Pinterest creating trends and making them popular. As you’re all probably well aware, the color of paint is also a big trend. However, many people associate painting trends with the INSIDE of their homes. The outside of our homes tends to get neglected when it comes to the world of trends and what’s in (or out). That makes sense though – we change up the inside of our homes more than the outside, the same way we wear different clothes depending on the season – but, as this article points out, there ARE trends to the color of our homes on the outside.

Michelle Hamilton, Idaho paint contractor, writes, “Today we have lightened our exteriors in general. The deep tones we once saw are now much more even toned, yet we have maintained our lighter trim color, with a clean white as a favorite. The body colors are less extreme today, with taupe tones still ruling the color charts.”

In addition to lightened and more even toned exteriors, satin exteriors and semigloss trims are also in style (according to Michelle). The pairing of a white trim with a semigloss sheen provides a spark of energy to the eye and is a clean, crisp look that will never be confused with gaudy. These are certainly some interesting stylistic choices. What do you think?

While style choices may be different in Idaho and that region of the country, one thing remains clear: the exterior of your house is just as, if not more, noticeable than the inside of your home, so you should consider changing up the outside of your home on a more regular basis.
