For the longest time, this technology was relegated to the upper echelon of society – people with money, but since 2008, the country as a whole has been experiencing a surge in solar home system installation. This is due in large part to the price of solar panels, which has fallen by 80 percent in recent years.
In this Environmental Defense Fund article, Jorge Madrid writes, “After analyzing installations in Arizona, California, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts and New York, the Center for American Progress found that in all states except Maryland, roof-top solar panels overwhelmingly landed in neighborhoods with a median household income of $40,000 to $90,000.”
This means only one thing: with affordable solar panels, solar energy is sweeping through the middle class, and that makes us smile. While the Center only analyzed stats in six states, one can assume that the same applies for the other states as well.
